Achieve this by towel drying your hair after a shower, and spraying it with a flexible hold hairspray.  There are mouses and other products available specifically for creating this style.  Twist small tendrils around your fingers to form the loose waves and let your hair air dry naturally. It’s sort of the “messy on purpose” type of look.

If you try to save your hair from the damaging effects of the natural heat, you can continue your love affair with the hair straightener for evenings out or days will you need a little extra help controlling the frizz.  As always, try to use a shampoo that is specific for heat-treated hair and look for a thermal protection spray prior to using a hair straightener.

**Always, always, ALWAYS use a hair repair shampoo and conditioner. Look for a shampoo and conditioner that’s made for use with heated styling tools or offers some sort of “repairing” benefits.

**Use a thermal protection spray every single time you clamp the hot plates down on your wild mane.  It’s worth it and will really help your hair in the long run.  It locks in moisture and prevents the “frying” that is sometimes associated with using a hair straightener.

**Save up some money and invest in a high quality hair straightener. The ideal straightener will have tourmaline (or tourmaline and ceramic) plates, will feature adjustable temperatures, and will use ion or far infra red technology.

*Lesser quality plates will chip and damage hair, and are known to heat unevenly, meaning they may burn some parts of your hair while leaving others unheated.  If you don’t choose an adjustable heat feature, you may actually be at risk of damaging your hair beyond repair.  Most girls need a temperature setting between 370 degrees Fahrenheit and 390 degrees Fahrenheit.  If you don’t need it any hotter, don’t set it any hotter and expose your hair to higher temperatures.  It’s not worth it.

*The ion and far infra red technology do an excellent job of decreasing frizz and making hair shiny and moisturized.  Many girls use a hair straightener to reduce frizz, so if you get one made for that, you’ll spend less time actually applying heat to your hair.

Wash your hair with a sleek and shine inducing shampoo and condition and blow dry straight.  Hold the hair dryer above your head and dry straight down while combing your tresses straight.  Use a thermal protection spray on your hair and wait for it to dry completely.  Then straighten your hair with a tourmaline hair straightener (try the Karmin G3) for a silky straight look.  This hair style is professional enough for the office, but sexy enough to keep you stylish.

When you’re ready to go out with your girls, pull your hair back into a high pony tail at the crown of your head and secure with an elastic.  Pull a small section of hair from the bottom of the pony, twist it and wrap it around the pony tail to hide the elastic .  Add an extra sheen with a shine serum to complete the look.

The Triple Braid

This is perfect for work or going out for lunch with the girls; plus it’s super easy to do!  After washing and drying your hair, spray it with a volumizing spray.  Pull it back into a low pony tail, making sure that the top of your hair is loose and voluminous.  Split the pony into three sections and braid each individually.  Then braid each of the three together and secure with a clear plastic band.  This oversize braid will give you a fun and focused look for any day of the week.

Side Pony

To get this look, pull your hair into a low, loose side pony and spray it with a thermal protection spray.  Use a double barrel curling iron to get some tousled waves by wrapping 3-inch sections around the barrels and letting them heat just enough for a subtle wave.  To add a little extra flair, wrap a section of hair around the elastic band and pin it down or fluff up your bangs and pin them back into a little poof.

A Big Bun

This daring look is perfect for date night or going out on the town with your best girlfriends.  Spritz your dry hair with a flexible hold hairspray and tease it all over to give it some volume.  Pull your hair into a high pony on the top of you head and secure with a strong elastic band.  Wrap your whole pony tail around itself and pin the ends down to create a big, loose bun.  Pull out random sections for a bit more daring and messy-on-purpose effect.

To get this look, add a volumizing spray to your towl dried hair.  Use a root booster like Kiwi Coloreflector Root Elevator Power Hold Foam Gel to add a little extra oomph and then blow dry.  Mist your tresses with a thermal protection spray and then curl different sized sections of hair with different sized curling irons.  Near the face, use a 3/4″ barrel curling iron to get small sweet curls.    At the back of the head, use a 1 1/2″ barrel curling iron for those big, sexy voluminous curls.
