This is the perfect way to show off a new body after doing crunch after crunch or running for hours on the treadmill. Not to mention, bikinis means beaches, swimming and pool parties. But one item that really ties the summer suit together is a little bling. That’s right, belly button rings are the number one way to make a bikini really pop.

This particular body jewelry is one of the most popular piercings in today’s society. Young girls love to spice up their outfits with these sparkly pieces of jewelry. The rings come in a big variety of colors, styles and types and with enough selection to wear a new one with every outfit.

Do you know where these little navel jewels got their start? Most believe that belly button rings are a relatively new trend. In fact, there is no evidence of such body jewelry prior to the invention and popularity of the bikini. It got it’s start in the early 1950s and bikini’s started out as something that was viewed as a negative showmanship of a woman’s body. But today, almost every woman on the beach is wearing a bikini.

Although no one knows for sure when belly button rings were actually invented, they broke out into the media when a famous supermodel came onto the runway of a London Fashion show wearing a ring in her belly button. Not long after, Supermodel Naomi Campbell displayed her new fashion sense as well! She donned a golden stud navel ring and the belly button ring trend was born.

Now thousands of teenagers are getting their navels decked out with the piercings every day. The jewelry is popular in foreign countries as well as in the United States. India, especially, is known for its dangling jewels and sparkly studs. The culture dictates this as an acceptable and even promoted style so many girls wear belly button rings. In the United States girls get their navels pierced to add spark to their belly and give it a little spice. Try out this new accessory today and your belly could thank you for blinging it up!

The single worst thing you can do after piercing your belly button ring is to ruin it forever by improper care or changing the belly button ring too early. Not only will you have to remove the navel jewelry, but you also suffer risks of painful infection that could spread throughout your body. Not to mention the pain or discomfort you will feel.

Properly licensed piercers will always provide you with detailed directions on how to take care of your new belly button ring. Generally they suggest you clean your piercing only once a day and use warm water and soap to do so. On the other hand, some of them will recommend that you use a sea salt/water combination and will sell the products in the salon.

In addition, you should wait at least six months before even attempting to change your belly button ring. In fact, many people wait up to a year before attempting to remove or replace the navel ring. This is vitally important because if you change it too soon, you run the serious risk of causing dangerous infections, as well as ruining the piercing and allowing it to close. So many people have removed the ring, and then been unable to put another one back it. It’s not worth the risk, just be patient.

Some piercers will recommend that you twist the belly button ring once per day, and others will tell you not to. It really depends on who you ask and the industry has not yet come to a consensus of which is best. All piercers will tell you to avoid touching the ring too much because the germs and oils on your hands are unsafe for the new piercing.

Belly button rings are a safe and desirable piercing, and if you care for them properly, they’ll be a great fashion accessory for many years to come.

Belly button rings have been on the scene since the early 90s when supermodels began to use them as a must have accessory. Crop top shirts and midriff bearing bathing suits contributed to the fad and cemented the navel ring as a popular piece of body jewelry.

The original group of young women who started this fashion trend are approaching an age where pregnancy is a real possibility. No longer are they in their teens and twenties, but are now adults. One thing they haven’t outgrown, however, is their sexy belly button rings.

Just because they’re going to be proud mama’s doesn’t mean they have to sacrifice their favorite body jewelry from their younger days. There’s just no reason why a woman should have to take out her belly button rings to accommodate her changing body.

Pregnancy belly button rings are not all identical; usually they are made from plastic however. A special sterile wire called PTFE that is nickel free and easily sterilized. Most often, retailers sell this wire in a 2” to 2 ½” lengths with two balls that screw on to either end. The beauty of this product is that it is fully adjustable! To change the length, simply cut the wire at an angle and reattach the balls.

The wire is self threading and will automatically hold the ball in place. These mom belly rings come with all sorts of balls from UV to titanium. In addition, they come with charms and dangles with phrases like “It’s a Boy/Girl” and “Baby on Board.”

Pregnancy is an exciting time in a mother’s life and it’s the beginning of a new lifestyle. It doesn’t have to force a woman to give up a piece of body jewelry she’s had for much of her life, though. Pregnancy belly button rings aren’t especially expensive and they correspond with the prices of belly button rings of similar style and quality.

Following your initial navel piercing, there are a lot of things to do to prevent pain and infection. After you’ve waited the recommended 6 to 12 months for your new piercing to heal, you’re probably ready to shop for some new belly button rings. It doesn’t matter where they come from, follow the same rules and precautions for sterilizing and switching belly button rings.

Before you even purchase the rings, check that they are made from a reliable material that won’t irritate your skin. Just because the piercing site appears healed and healthy, doesn’t mean you are immune to germs and infection. The best materials for belly button rings are 316L surgical steel (a form of stainless steel), titanium, Bioplast or Bioflex, 24K plated gold and 14K real gold. Jewelry made from these products are strong and sturdy and won’t break.

Before inserting the belly button ring, sterilize each product with warm soapy water to remove any dirt and oil. When you prepare to change the belly ring, clean your hands with soap and water as you would any other time you touch the ring.

Twist and remove the top ball from the new belly ring and put it off to the side. Hold the bottom ball of the belly button ring you are wearing between two fingers. Gently twist the top ball of the navel ring you are wearing to remove it from the barbell. Slowly pull the belly button ring down and out of your navel piercing.

Immediate grab the replacement belly ring and position the ball-less part of the barbell near the inside of your belly button (where the piercing hole is). Slowly and gently apply pressure and continue until the barbell pokes through the top hole of your piercing.

Grab the top ball of your new ring and gently screw it on while holding the barbell still with your thumb and forefinger. After that is complete, immediately wash your hands, as well as the old belly button ring

Getting your belly button pierced is an exciting time and can really be a lot of fun. This is certainly true if you’ve been waiting a long time to get permission or if you have had to wait until a legal age. People generally get really excited after they see how cute their first belly button ring will look.

However, after you get home from the piercing salon, then what? It looks great, right? But it’s also a little sore. And you bought tons

of cute belly button rings online, but the piercer said you had to wait to change it. So what do you do? You wait.

The single worst thing you can do after piercing your belly button ring is to ruin it forever by improper care or changing the belly button ring too early. It will be especially detrimental because you’ll have to both take away your current belly ring AND run the risk of serious illness due to infection. Not to mention the pain or discomfort you will feel.

Properly licensed piercers will always provide you with detailed directions on how to take care of your new belly button ring.

Generally they suggest you clean your piercing only once a day and use warm water and soap to do so.All piercers will recommend that you clean your piercing only once per day to prevent drying, and they will all tell you to NEVER use Neosporin or rubbing alcohol to clean the piercing.

In addition, you should wait at least six months before even attempting to change your belly button ring. In fact, man

y people wait up to a year before attempting to remove or replace the navel ring. This is vitally important because if you change it too soon, you run the serious risk of causing dangerous infections, as well as ruining the piercing and allowing it to close.

It’s necessary to avoid touching the piercing as much as possible. Even if you wash your hands, you’ll still have natural oils on your fingers that could transfer gems and cause painful infections. They will also recommend that you avoid wearing tight clothing that will rub against your new belly button ring and that you should avoid activities that will cause excessive sweating, at least for the first few weeks.

Belly button rings are a safe and desirable piercing, and if you care for them properly, they’ll be a great fashion accessory for many years to come.

Gone are the days where all you could find was the standard, traditional non-dangling banana barbell with two acrylic balls. No more!

You can find navel rings with a wide selection of barbell styles and decorative accents. The most common, and least expensive, are still the non-dangling, but that doesn’t mean they’re boring. You can purchase a navel ring with a variety of gems and jewels, colors and shapes, and even licensed logos and brands like professional sports teams and Playboy.

The dangling belly buttons are becoming more creative, too. They’re no longer always a plain jewel hanging from a plain linked barbell. You can get dangling chains, gems, jewels, metal shapes and more. If you’re interested, there are also belly button rings attached to chains and ropes which can wrap around the waist or link on to other body piercings. The dangling portion can be less than ¼ of an inch long all the way up to 1 ½ inches long or more.

There are even newer and unseen styles available today. In the past few years, the “reverse navel ring” has skyrocketed in popularity. This style of navel ring enters the belly button in the same way, but instead of a decorative piece hanging down from the bottom part of the barbell, it extends from the top. It will typically be stationary, rather than free-moving, but this is a creative way to expand your navel ring style.

You could also look for a “spiral navel ring” if you want something a little more daring. They don’t dangle but they are a curved barbell either. They spiral and twist, just like the name says. The design features a 14 GA or 16 GA barbell that spirals, rather than curves. It appears to be like a section of a spring, but it doesn’t expand and contract. They usually have two balls on the end in decorative colors and sometimes the entire ring is made from titanium, which comes in a variety of colors.

Never again should you feel like you can only choose from two styles of navel rings. No matter what your style and taste dictates, you can easily find a belly button rings that’s right for you.

Due to the popularity of belly button rings, some companies have develop a “fake” or “non-piercing” navel ring. These belly rings are supposed to look just like the real thing, be pain free, and stay on with ease.

To wear the fake belly button ring, a user need not have the actual piercing. This is ideal for people who do not want to go through the piercing process or who are not always allowed to have body jewelry (because of parents, dress codes, work, school, etc.).

Fake belly button rings typically have an arm that is attached to a spring and has a flat surface on the end that will press into the skin. Wearers will pull the movable arm back and hold the clip open. Then they will place the bottom or stationary arm inside the navel and press it to the back. Then they should gently close the clip by moving the movable arm back into position and the belly button ring will be attached.

There are some styles that require a person to glue a gem to the navel to create the look of a belly button ring. Others have a spring loaded system that attaches the non-piercing belly button ring. These are reportedly of lesser quality and suffer a lot of user complaints

A new material called bioplast is becoming very popular in body jewelry today. Read here to learn what it is and where you can get it.

Bioplast body jewelry is showing up from more and more manufacturers. It is especially popular for use with navel rings. This material is an alternative to metallic (surgical steel and titanium) body jewelry and provides several benefits that the other materials do not.

Most importantly, bioplast belly button rings can be cleaned and sterilized very easily. Bioplast can be heated to 121 degrees Celsius, or approximately 250 degrees Fahrenheit. These scalding temperatures will easily kill any bacteria and ensure that the belly button rings are clean and safe to wear.

In addition to being so sterile, this material is more flexible than titanium and surgical steel navel rings. This allows for a greater range of movement and will reduce any tearing or stretching in the navel area. Because bioplast is a bio-compatible material, it is less likely than metallic body jewelry to be rejected by the body. When the body rejects a new piercing, it will become infected and not heal properly.

Belly button ring retailers are also fond of this style of navel ring because it is “self-threading.” When the belly ring reaches the consumer, this is typically not an issue but manufacturers certainly appreciate it. A self-threading belly button ring is one that can be cut to any size. Bioplast body jewelry are typically no more expensive than the metallic body jewelry of compatible styles. They are reportedly “the best material for belly button rings” because they offer so many more benefits than metallic rings but do not have a higher price.

Belly button rings are becoming extremely popular. Read here to learn everything you need to know from the styles of piercings to the right kind of metal.

The idea of navel rings is said to have begun in the 1940s when Hollywood movie producers were banned from showing navels on the big screen. To get around this limitation, actresses wore gems or jewels in their belly buttons so they didn‘t actually show. Others believe that the tradition began long ago in Roman, Greek and Egyptian cultures. It was customary to decorate the body with piercings and tattoos in these cultures.

Wherever the tradition began, navel rings are very popular today, especially among young women. The ability to easily hide or conceal the belly button ring, especially during the healing process, has really led to the piercing’s popularity.

The name “navel piercing” is not exactly accurate, however. Actually, the rim above the navel is where the piercing is located. Of course, a person can pierce the skin on the bottom and sides of the navel as well.

A belly button or navel is usually pierced with a barbell because they allow for the easiest healing process. Navel piercings have their own special kind of barbells, though. Because of their slightly curved design, they are often called “bananabells” or “bananabars.”

Body jewelry is measured by “gauges.” Navel piercings are usually done with a 14 Gauge barbell which is the same as 1/16’. The Association of Professional Piercers (APP) states that no greater than 14 GA body jewelry may be used in piercings below the neck. This is to prevent the risk of a negative reaction or skin tearing.

A standard belly button ring is 3/8” long, but people sometimes use a longer barbell at the time of piercing to allow room for the area to swell slightly. The balls on a standard navel ring are usually two different sizes; the top ball is 5 mm in diameter while the bottom ball is 8 mm in diameter.

There are, of course, risks involved in having one’s belly button pierced. The most common risks include pain at the piercing site, swelling, scarring and infection. To minimize your risk, make certain that the piercer uses sterilized tools in a sterilized environment.

Healing can take anywhere from four months to one year. There are many things that affect the healing process of a navel ring: sweat, shirt fabric, overall health, care and quality of jewelry. Only 316L and 316LVM surgical steel are approved as “implant grade” materials by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM).

Belly button rings are becoming more and more popular and it’s important to people take great care of these piercings. They are considered beautiful and a great way to add to one’s personal style. If you’re interested in getting this type of piercing, make sure you know all the risks and benefits before doing so.
