To get big and curly hair, most people use hair rollers and leave them in their hair overnight or at least let them sit in their hair for a few hours. However, pinning your hair up in curlers consumes quite a bit of time. If you have times when you’re in a hurry to get going with your day and don’t have time to individually put small sections of hair into a roller, this is the perfect opportunity to try out a new technique!

To get started, grab your hair straightener, thermal spray, and plenty of hairspray. Your first mission is to create a helmet of protection (metaphorically speaking, of course). You can do this by spritzing an even shield of thermal spray from your roots to your ends. Set your straightener on a little bit lower setting of heat because you are moving it through you hair at a slower pace, which can create more damage if on a high heat setting.

Now it’s time to begin the process of curling with a hair straightener. Although it seems like a contradiction to say you can get curly hair out of a straightening tool, this technique sometimes works better than any other curling technique. Grab your first section of hair and follow these exact steps to create best results. Starting at the crown of the hair you have grabbed, clamp your first section and twist your wrist ninety degrees. When you do this step of twisting, make sure you aren’t twisting the iron while moving down through your hair. Instead hold it in place while you simply turn the iron ninety degrees and then pull it trough your hair while in that twisted position. You don’t have to worry about continuously twisting the straightener because the curl forms as the iron pulls down in the twisted position.

Repeat those careful steps on all sections of your hair until you have created a satisfactory hairstyle for yourself. One thing that is really great about doing the curling process with a flat iron is that you can leave a few pieces straight or curl each and every little strand to give your hair a fuller look. Leaving a few pieces straight here and there throughout the hair looks more fun and flirty while curling all the way around looks more polished and professional for a day in the office.

The last step of this time saving process is to apply hairspray. You want to use a fair amount to hold every fly away or loose strand in place. Another great way to use hairspray is to hold it far enough away from your hair but apply it to the crown of the hair. When you do this, hold up a section of your hair that you know you can apply hairspray underneath and then run your fingers through the section to give it a nice poof.

Hairspray is just one little finishing touch that can make a hairstyle go a long way. This method of styling is much easier going on your time because instead of putting curlers in, letting them stay in over a few hours time, and wasting time creating waves. If you have naturally straight hair, it’s easy to accomplish a polished look fast. Your basic tools include frizz serum, a round brush or wide-toothed comb, and a little hairspray. Starting with your first layer, take one-inch sections and run your hair straightener through your hair to free it of frizz and wave. Begin by washing your hair with a shampoo and conditioner that have an emphasis on taming curly hair. These types of shampoo are great for saving time later when you style and will also help build up strength in your hair. The next step is to spray plenty of thermal spray on your damp hair and begin blow drying. To prevent frizz, most blow dryers feature a “cold” setting so that you can dry with cold air. · Conditioner: Helps keep hair healthy and repairs it from the daily damage we do it on a daily basis, such as brushing or even by being in the sun. The more you use heated tools (like a flat iron) and styling products, the more your need for conditioner will grow.

· Hairspray: Determining the best kind of hairspray comes from what kind of results you are looking for.  If you need to keep a hairstyle in place, use something with extra hold. If you need volume, use something lighter.

· Gel: A little bit of hair gel will go a long way to help your hair hold styles created by hair dryers, curling or flat irons. Hair gel is more heavy duty than mousse or hairspray and is not always appropriate for day to day use.

· Thermal Spray: Should be used before any direct heat is applied to your hair and it protects hair from the heat of hair dryers, curling and flat irons.

· Paste or Wax: Gives hair a piecey, messy look. It’s easy to accidentally make your hair look greasy with Pastes and Waxes so be sure to use only a little at a time until you determine how much works for you.

· Flat Iron: Gives hair a straight, silky look and can also double as a curling iron. Again, this tool uses heat, so do not leave on hair for an extended period of time to avoid damage and always try to use thermal spray. This tool can help style nearly every single type of hair.  Depending on how thick or curly your hair is, you may need to adjust the heat setting.

Achieve this by towel drying your hair after a shower, and spraying it with a flexible hold hairspray.  There are mouses and other products available specifically for creating this style.  Twist small tendrils around your fingers to form the loose waves and let your hair air dry naturally. It’s sort of the “messy on purpose” type of look.

If you try to save your hair from the damaging effects of the natural heat, you can continue your love affair with the hair straightener for evenings out or days will you need a little extra help controlling the frizz.  As always, try to use a shampoo that is specific for heat-treated hair and look for a thermal protection spray prior to using a hair straightener.

The Triple Braid

This is perfect for work or going out for lunch with the girls; plus it’s super easy to do!  After washing and drying your hair, spray it with a volumizing spray.  Pull it back into a low pony tail, making sure that the top of your hair is loose and voluminous.  Split the pony into three sections and braid each individually.  Then braid each of the three together and secure with a clear plastic band.  This oversize braid will give you a fun and focused look for any day of the week.

Side Pony

To get this look, pull your hair into a low, loose side pony and spray it with a thermal protection spray.  Use a double barrel curling iron to get some tousled waves by wrapping 3-inch sections around the barrels and letting them heat just enough for a subtle wave.  To add a little extra flair, wrap a section of hair around the elastic band and pin it down or fluff up your bangs and pin them back into a little poof.

A Big Bun

This daring look is perfect for date night or going out on the town with your best girlfriends.  Spritz your dry hair with a flexible hold hairspray and tease it all over to give it some volume.  Pull your hair into a high pony on the top of you head and secure with a strong elastic band.  Wrap your whole pony tail around itself and pin the ends down to create a big, loose bun.  Pull out random sections for a bit more daring and messy-on-purpose effect.

To get this look, add a volumizing spray to your towl dried hair.  Use a root booster like Kiwi Coloreflector Root Elevator Power Hold Foam Gel to add a little extra oomph and then blow dry.  Mist your tresses with a thermal protection spray and then curl different sized sections of hair with different sized curling irons.  Near the face, use a 3/4″ barrel curling iron to get small sweet curls.    At the back of the head, use a 1 1/2″ barrel curling iron for those big, sexy voluminous curls.

Gently twist the hair at the base of your head into a loose and curly bun.  Pin down and arrange curls to achieve your desired look.  Spray the entire do with a flexible hold hairspray to maintain the loose look.
